Hijacked car stripped under police guard
The recovered vehicle was being kept at a police safeguarding unit in Benoni.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have confirmed they've received notice of legal action to be taken against them after a hijacked car was stripped while under police guard.
Police recovered the stolen vehicle in Tembisa earlier this year after a couple was hijacked at gunpoint in Boksburg.
The car was being kept at a police safeguarding unit in Benoni.
However, when one of the victims went to fetch the vehicle, they found that parts worth about R30,000 had been stripped from their VW Polo.
"The first time round, when the victim got to the vehicle, it was in a good condition. The second time round, when she came to fetch the vehicle, some of the its parts were missing including the computer box and other items," said the police's Neville Malila.
While the perpetrators have yet to be identified, Malila said authorities are investigating the incident.
