JOHANNESBURG - Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on Thursday said South Africans are not yet ready to forget what happened during apartheid.

The struggle veteran was speaking at the launch of her book 491 Days: Prisoner Number 1323/69 at the Women's Atrium at Constitution Hill, one of the prisons where she was incarcerated.

The book is about her time in prison, when she was arrested for her political activism.

Madikizela-Mandela said she is reluctant to read the book because it brings back the pain she suffered during apartheid.

"I disagree that you can tell people with this kind of history to simply forget the past. It is not possible at all. I think that one is really underestimating or undermining the intelligence of our people."
