JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have appealed to the public for information that could lead to more arrests in connection with the murder of former Heidelberg Police District Commissioner, Gerrit Myburgh.

Police confirmed on Wednesday they are investigating a case of murder and house robbery after the body of the former top cop was found burnt at his rural plot.

It's believed the 77-year-old was living alone at his plot when he was robbed and killed on Monday.

Police say his body was discovered by his niece and family friend who went to visit him.

His half-naked body was found lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom, both his hands and feet tied up with clothes.

The crime was only made public this afternoon.

The police's Katlego Mogale said the house was ransacked and four firearms were missing, as well as Myburgh's car.
