Aplon hopes to get Boks call up
The fullback is currently training with Western Province ahead of the upcoming Currie Cup season.
CAPE TOWN - Stormers fullback Gio Aplon says he will be ready to represent the Springboks if he gets a call up to the national side.
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer is set to announce his squad on Saturday for the upcoming Rugby Championship.
The competition kicks off on 17 August. The Boks will take on Argentina.
Aplon is currently training with Western Province as they prepare for the start of the Currie Cup next week.
He says for now he is focusing on Western Province.
"If your name gets announced then you focus on that but at the moment I'm at Western Province. I'm focusing on that. However, if I'm given the opportunity to represent the Boks then I'll shift my focus."
He says he is excited to be a part of the Province team that is defending their title.
"There's pressure on us because we are the defending champions. We have a couple of new faces and so far it's looking good."
Their first game in the Currie Cup will be against the Bulls on 10 August at Newlands.
