Alleged baby killer receiving death threats
Juanita Fourie and her husband are accused of murdering her three-week-old son.
PRETORIA - A woman accused of murdering and abusing her three-week-old baby has told the court she is receiving death threats and has been terrorised by the media.
On Wednesday, the North Gauteng High Court heard that Juanita Fourie is too emotional to attend court.
Fourie and her estranged husband Christiaan Oldewage are both facing charges of abusing and murdering her son Christiaan in December 2011.
The couple married just before the baby was born. She said she has lost everything due to the publicity of the matter.
However, media reports claim Fourie failed to attend her previous court date, saying she was instructed by a psychologist not to do so.
The state alleges the pair repeatedly assaulted the baby, allowed him to be abused, failed to protect him from being assaulted and deliberately neglected.
The baby died of multiple injuries, including a fractured skull and broken ribs.
Fourie and Oldewage are currently in the process of getting divorced.
