Sundowns striker Mphela in car accident
Mamelodi Sundowns says Katlego Mphela is fine and was only in hospital briefly.
JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego 'Killer' Mphela was involved in a car accident on Tuesday afternoon.
The team's spokesperson Kabelo Mosito spoke to Sports Talk's Udo Carelse about the accident and Mphela's state.
Mosito said, "The accident happened in Pretoria near Marabastad. Mphela was on his way home from training and collided with a delivery truck and his car has been written off."
Mphela is said to be "fine" and didn't stay at the hospital for a long time, according to Mosito.
"We're happy he's fine. He can talk and he can walk. [Thankfully] he was wearing a safety belt and didn't experience terrible injuries."
Mosito said the team doctor checked him but the full report will only be released later on Wednesday.
"He's recovering at home and it's still too early to tell if he'll be available for this weekend's game."
In March 2011, Mphela was arrested for drunk driving after celebrating a Bafana Bafana victory in which he scored.
