Proteas end on 223

CAPE TOWN - The Proteas managed to scrap to a respectable 223 for 7 thanks in large part to some powerful hitting from David Miller who top scored with 85 of 72 deliveries.

Miller smashed back to back sixes in the penultimate over of the match to hand South Africa some much needed momentum heading into the Sri Lankan innings.

Earlier in the innings South African batsmen struggled to come to terms with a slow Kandy wicket and mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis made life difficult for a Protea batting order that has been woefully short of runs.

Mendis ended with a spell of 10 overs 3 for 35 and took the wickets of AB de Villiers, Robin Peterson and Farhaan Behardien.

Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers and JP Duminy all managed to get themselves in, only to lose their wickets at critical moments and rob the Proteas of a chance to set up a decent platform.

The Proteas are 2-0 down in the five match series and need to win this match in order to keep their series hopes alive.
