MEC to report back on shredded books
Angie Motshekga's spokesperson Hope Mokgatlhe says the company claims they only shredded 100 books.
JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal MEC Senzo Mchunu is expected to report back to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga as to why school textbooks were found shredded and burned at a warehouse in Empangeni.
Textbooks meant for schools in the province were discovered at a warehouse belonging to UTI Distributors.
The company has been contracted by Motshekga's office to distribute textbooks in all provinces.
Motshekga's spokesperson Hope Mokgatlhe says the company claims they only shredded 100 books.
"It still has to be verified because we can't just take their word for it. We take this matter seriously and that's why we've done further investigations. There are reports that they were old books which had to be disposed of but no books can be shredded without the consent from the department."
