CAPE TOWN - A badly decomposed body of a child has been found in a half-built house in Zeekoevlei.

The body was found on Thursday afternoon.

Police are still at the scene conducting further investigations.

The Grassy Park Community Policing Forum's Phillip Bam says, "Apparently, the body cannot be identified because it is badly decomposed."

A large part of the street has been the cordoned off with blue and yellow tape.

Several police cars are at the scene and there is a strong, foul smell in the air.

Neighbours alerted authorities after complaining about the stench. Police then found a child's body at a nearby house.

Some of those gathered at the scene include relatives of Kiana Williams, who went missing more than a month ago. She was last seen playing in the area.

The Williams house is just metres away from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, the police's Frederick van Wyk says the body was found under masses of building rubble.

"Grassy Park police members were called out to a scene, where a badly decomposed body was found in an unfinished house," says van Wyk.
