JOHANNESBURG - Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula on Tuesday wished Bafana luck ahead of their Cosafa Cup semifinal against hosts, Zambia, in Ndola on Wednesday.

Bafana are confident going into the last-four contest after winning 2-1 over Namibia in the quarterfinals with a new-look squad of uncapped players.

Mbalula said he is impressed by the performance of the new-look Bafana squad so far.

"This group of players has demonstrated one thing and that is they believe and they have talent. They've been fantastic. I wish they could get all the way to the finals."

He said he hopes the team shows as much hunger as it did in its previous match.

"I like this thing of players giving the coach a headache because everyone who is selected wants to do his best. That's what we want and that's the spirit. Let people fight and compete for the jersey. We know very well that wearing the Bafana jersey is an honour."

Mbalula said the new players should grab their chance of showing the coach that they are worthy of regular call-ups.

"This competition, small as it is, is a good platform to give players you don't know a chance. That gives the coach a whole lot of options."
