Muirfield has Oosthuizen poised
2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen is feeling confident ahead of this year's tournament.
JOHANNESBURG - The 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen said on Tuesday he is feeling confident ahead of this year's tournament, which starts on Thursday at Muirfield in Scotland.
Oosthuizen shocked the golf world at St. Andrews, clinching the Claret Jug in spectacular fashion.
In the last seven times The Open has been played at Muirfield, South Africans have won twice.
Gary Player won in 1959 and Ernie Els won in 2002.
Oosthuizen said he likes the look of the course and fancies his chances.
"It is one of my favourite courses. It's a spectacular golf course with great conditions. At the moment I'm playing really firm, which is good. It's nice being back and the open week's always special to me."
Practice for Oosthuizen has gone well.
He said he feels he has a strategy that could see him go far this week.
"I played really nicely. I didn't score anything but I hit the ball nicely off the tees, which is the main thing this week. It's going to be a good challenge."
When asked what the predominant quality needed to win at Muirfield is as players Els and Player have shown over the years Oosthuizen said, "You need to show what you've got."
