CAPE TOWN - An alleged sex offender has been arrested for recruiting four young girls from Du Noon and grooming them for prostitution.

It is believed the girls were sexually abused over a period of time at a property in Richwood, where they were exposed to pornography and prostitution.

They have been taken to a place of safety.

The suspect, who has appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate's Court, faces rape and other charges.

The city's Richard Bosman says members of the vice squad helped rescue the girls.

"He had apparently threatened them and had indicated to them if they were to report the matter to police, he would come and get them again."

In December, five people were arrested for selling a 13-year-old Atlantis girl for sex.

It's alleged the girl's mother sold her to men, including her stepfather, for as little as R20.
