CAPE TOWN - Four people arrested for murdering an Mfuleni policeman are expected to appear in court on Monday.

The police's Andre Traut says the suspects, aged between 16 and 47, were arrested in an intelligence-driven operation on Thursday evening.

Mthunzi Mbonjwa was shot and killed during a suspected argument in June.

Traut said the 35-year-old was off duty at the time of the incident.

"An unlicensed firearm and ammunition were also confiscated during the arrests. The suspects are due to make a court appearance on Monday in Blue Downs."

In another incident, four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Gauteng policeman Tirhani Maswanganyi.

His body was found in an open field near Hammanskraal in June.

Maswanganyi's hands and feet were bound.

The Police Ministry has condemned the killing of officers, describing it as a blow to the fight against crime.
