Constable 'caught raping teen'
IPID's Moses Dlamini said the off-duty officer was caught red-handed by colleagues.
JOHANNESBURG - A police constable will appear in court on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
It is understood the officer forced the teenager into his bakkie on Tuesday.
The officer allegedly stopped in Daleside and raped her.
He will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)'s Moses Dlamini said the off-duty constable was caught red-handed by colleagues patrolling the area.
"Another police van was patrolling the area. It saw the bakkie and stopped to investigate. They found the suspect naked, still busy raping the child. The policeman was arrested."
Meanwhile, police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said they are still searching for a man accused of raping an 11-year-old Braamfischerville girl last week.
"We are appealing to the community to help us with information so that we can arrest the suspect."
According to statistics, a person is raped every four minutes in South Africa.
In 2012, Interpol named South Africa the rape capital of the world.
Government and non-governmental organisations have since embarked on campaigns to curb the rape scourge.
