Govt. gang violence strategy not working
Dan Plato says the current strategy to stop killings on the Cape flats is not working.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato at the weekend said he believes police are not in a position to stop violence in gang-riddled areas in the province.
Plato said this after four young men between the ages of 14 and 20 were shot and wounded in Elsies River this week.
In another incident in Manenberg, a 12 year old girl was wounded after she was hit by a stray bullet.
There's also been a spate of fatal shootings in areas such Delft and Kraaifontein.
Plato said, "The current strategy to stop the killings on the Cape flats is not working. Government needs to begin to look at other measures."
