Dead suspected hijackers screened
Gauteng police are screening three deceased suspected hijackers and their illegal firearms.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police said on Friday three guns used in a shootout between a civilian and three suspected hijackers have been taken for ballistic tests to determine whether they can be linked to other crimes.
The three suspects were shot and killed in Fordsburg on Thursday afternoon after they tried to hijack a businessman.
Police have also confirmed the Golf GTI the suspects were travelling in, was stolen.
Gauteng police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said the suspects are being screened to check if they can be linked to other crimes.
"The suspects were driving slowly next to the victim. When the victim thought they had passed, they suddenly stopped their vehicle and pointed a firearm at him. The police found two unlicensed firearms on the scene."
