JOHANNESBURG - The 11-year-old Soweto girl who was raped and stabbed three times on Wednesday has communicated with her family about the attack.

It is understood the girl was attacked at her home in Braamfischerville in front of her four-year-old brother during the early hours of Wednesday morning after their parents had left for work.

The girl managed to call for help from her neighbours.

On Thursday, she was moved from ICU to the casualty ward at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital where she's recovering.

Her mother says it's been difficult for the whole family.

She however says they believe the police will help them track down the perpetrator.

The police's Kay Makhubela said authorities don't know the motive for the incident, but are appealing for those with information to come forward.
