CAPE TOWN - Tygerberg Hospital has confirmed that an Elsies River woman who was doused with petrol and then set alight has died.

Nazeema Terreblanche was allegedly set alight by her ex-partner Roger Lucas.

The 22-year-old sustained burn wounds to 75 percent of her body in the incident which occurred last month.

Lucas is being held at Pollsmoor Prison in connection with the incident.

He was denied bail in the Goodwood Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The accused will make another court appearance on 15 July.

Tygerberg Hospital's Leticia Pienaar said Terreblanche was in a critical condition before she died.

Terreblanche's brother says he doesn't think Lucas feels remorse.

"I don't think he is sad because I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy. We must pray that God will forgive him."

He says Nazeema's two-year-old son doesn't understand that his mother has died.
