JOHANNESBURG - Bafana coach Gordon Igesund says the new faces in his team are expected to perform well in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup if they hope to be recalled for bigger matches.

Igesund made nine forced changes to his 20-men squad after four Premier Soccer League (PSL) sides withdrew players because the tournament does not fall on a FIFA sanctioned date.

Last week, Kaizer Chiefs withdrew Tefu Mashamaite, Erick Mathoho, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker.

SuperSport United also did the same withdrawing goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and striker Kermit Erasmus, while Bloemfontein Celtic's Thabo Nthethe and Mamelodi Sundown's Tebogo Langerman were also taken out.

Orlando Pirates players were ruled out because they will be in African Champions League action on 21 July.

Igesund says inexperience will be no excuse.

"I hope these players will put their hands up and rise to the occasion. It's a young team but in reality it's really not that young because some of the players are 23 and 24. All these players who are 23 and 24 should be 18 and 19 in reality."

The competition kicks off in Zambia on Saturday. Bafana's first game will be on the 13th.
