JOHANNESBURG - As the four men accused of murdering senior Gauteng policeman Tirhani Maswanganyi prepare to apply for bail next week, police said on Tuesday they hope to make further arrests in the case.

The top cop's body was found bound and dumped near the R101 between Pretoria and Hammanskraal last month.

On Monday, two suspects appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court where the case was postponed after investigators requested all suspects appear together.

Gauteng police spokesperson Neville Malila said the investigation is at a 'sensitive stage' and details about a possible motive may emerge during the bail application on Monday next week.

"The investigation must still continue and the investigators believe that the lead they are following up will lead to more arrests."

Two of the suspects were arrested last week while the other two were caught over the weekend.

Malila would not comment on reports that some of the suspects are or were members of the defence force.

Maswanganyi's vehicle was abandoned with his police uniform, service pistol and other personal items left in it.

A reward of up to R100,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
