Girl raped in Soweto

A young girl was brutally raped and stabbed in Braamfischerville, Soweto on Wednesday morning.

Yet another rape has occurred in the Soweto area.

JOHANNESBURG - An 11-year-old Soweto girl was raped and stabbed three times at her home in Braamfischerville, Gauteng police confirmed on Wednesday.

It is understood that the girl and her four-year-old brother were attacked in the early hours of Wednesday morning after their parents left for work.

The police's Kay Makhubela said the man who raped her also "stabbed her several times on the upper body.

"We don't know the motive for this incident, but we appeal to anyone who saw what transpired to contact the police."

The girl managed to call for help from her neighbours.

The child is in a critical condition in hospital.

According to a 2012 report published by Interpol, South Africa is the rape capital of the world.

It is reported that only 22 percent of sexual crimes against children make it to court.
