Man of Steel opens in SA

The movie carried a hefty budget of $225 million and took in a total of $125 million in early screenings.

NEW YORK - British actor Henry Cavill, who's taken on the iconic role of superman in Man of Steel, has told Eyewitness News the world will always need heroes.

Henry was talking at the Man of Steel New York premiere.

Henry said, "Whether be ancient Greek dummy gods or modern day mythological heroes like Superman they represent hope, leading the odds…the bad not winning."

Oscar nominated Kevin Costner shared Henry's sentiments about the movie saying people are still anxious to go sit in the dark to watch something that blows them away.

Man of Steel, the big-budget reboot of the Superman franchise made muscular $113.1 million to lead the domestic box office with the year's second-largest debut weekend and the biggest June opening ever.

The movie carried a hefty budget of $225 million and took in a total of $125 million in early screenings, according to BoxOffice.com.

The movie which has done well at the overseas box office opens in South Africa on Friday.
