Arrests in CT cop murder case
Two men are behind bars in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old off-duty officer.
CAPE TOWN - Cape Town police have made two swift arrests in connection with the killing of an off-duty officer in Lwandle near Strand.
Thabo Mdzwana was gunned down on an open field on Hlati Street in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
His firearm was missing from the scene.
The police's Andre Traut said, "Police investigations led to the arrest and detention of two males aged 30 and 36. They are due in court once they have been charged."
The incident follows the killing of a Johannesburg cluster commander last week.
Major General Tirhani Maswanganyi's body was found in a field in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.
No arrests have been made.
Police have offered a reward of R100,000 for information leading to arrests.
Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has condemned police killings, calling it a blow to the fight against crime.
