Family, friends pay tribute to top cop
A memorial service will be held this morning in Soweto for slain top cop Tirhani Maswanganyi.
JOHANNESBURG - The family of slain top cop Tirhani Maswanganyi are preparing for two tributes in his memory this week, one which will see him honoured this morning.
Hundreds of Maswanganyi's colleagues, family members and friends will travel to the Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Moroka, Soweto today for a memorial service.
His funeral will take place on Thursday morning at the Hammanskraal Detective Academy. His body will then be transported to a cemetery in Akasia, outside Pretoria.
The senior officer's body was found dumped and bound near the R101 between Pretoria and Hammanskraal on Tuesday, 18 June.
His vehicle was abandoned with his police uniform, service pistol and other personal items left in it.
On Wednesday police offered a reward of up to R100,000 for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Mzwandile Petros said last week the senior officer was involved in many sensitive investigations, including cases involving corruption.
However, authorities have not yet confirmed if Maswanganyi's recent work in the fight against police corruption was the motive behind the apparent hit.
Police have yet to make any arrests.
