FNB stadium heist: No arrests yet
Gauteng police say there've been no major developments in their investigation into the heist.
JOHANNESBURG - More than a month after a heist at the FNB Stadium in Soweto police say they are yet to make any arrests or breakthroughs in the investigation.
Eyewitness News broke the story on 13 May about how criminals made off with millions of rand in cash after pulling off a carefully planned heist following the Justin Bieber and Bon Jovi concerts. The concerts were staged on same weekend.
Gauteng police say there have been no major developments in their investigation into the heist.
Eyewitness News understands that crime intelligence investigators have been monitoring specific cell phone records and key bank accounts.
Certain suspects have also been identified and several employees of Big Concerts, Stadium Management South Africa and security companies working on site have been interviewed by police.
It's widely believed that the heist was an inside job as only a handful of people knew about the existence of the safe room.
Criminals chiselled away at a double thick wall and used ropes and ladders to gain access to the cash in the hours after the Bieber concert.
