Amla 'happy to contribute'
Protea run-maker Hashim Amla once again produced a solid performance.
JOHANNESBURG - Proteas opening batsman Hashim Amla says his partnership
with Colin Ingram did well to help weather the storm for South Africa in the team's
67-run victory over Pakistan
in the Champions Trophy.
The partnership saw them
post a first-wicket stand of 53. Amla scored 81 off 97 balls which steered South Africa to 234/9.
He says the contribution was
not all smooth sailing.
"At times it felt like 'where
are we going to find the next run' but in hindsight that was a really vital partnership
in seeing out the first ten overs. I'm just happy to have been able to
Amla singled out Chris
Morris and Aaron Phangiso for their performances.
Morris marked his ODI debut by taking two wickets for 10 runs in 19 balls while
spinner Phangiso also performed well, taking one for 50 from 10 overs.
Amla says the pair have a
bright future in the team.
"I think everyone in the
team knew their hunger and knew their skills. Fortunately they managed to prove
themselves as such. The environment in the team is very conducive for
youngsters to come in and express themselves."
