JOHANNESBURG - Two people have been arrested in police raids in Alexandra in connection with taxi violence.

Officers acting on a tipoff also found a 9mm pistol, ammunition and an AK47 rifle on 3rd Avenue believed to have been used in taxi violence in several areas.

The two men who were arrested earlier are believed to be linked to a gang that has been involved in taxi violence in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

It is believed taxi owners are at war over routes between the two provinces.

The suspects are alleged to have shot dead two people, one in July and another earlier in 2013.

Police say more arrests are imminent.
