JOHANNESBURG - A Johannesburg man told Eyewitness News on Tuesday he has laid criminal charges and turned to the Human Rights Commission after falling victim to a racist slur from someone selling a car on the Gumtree website.

Evans Molepo was interested in a Corsa bakkie being sold when he sent a message to the seller about a week ago.

He was immediately asked some personal questions by the seller.

Molepo relayed the conversation he had with the seller:

Seller: "Is jy Afrikaans?"

Molepo: "No I'm not."

Seller: "is jy wit?"

"No I'm black."

Seller: "Sorry I can't help you."

Molepo said the seller used the K-word, said blacks were not human and told him he was lower than a baboon.

He said he hopes the culprit is brought to book.
