CAPE TOWN - The family of a 59-year-old doctor, who was found murdered earlier this week, say although it is hard to accept his death they are coping.

Well-known paediatric specialist at Tygerberg Hospital, Louis Heyns, failed to return to his Welgelegen home after visiting his brother in Somerset West last week.

His body was found buried in a shallow grave in Beach Road in Strand earlier this week.

It is believed the spot where Heyns' body was found dubbed "lovers lane" is notorious for criminal activity.

Heyns' brother-in-law and family spokesman Andre Mouton says, "The family is coping well under the circumstances. Obviously, there are some emotions and there's a deep loss that needs to be dealt with."

Three Malmesbury suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder.

They are expected to appear in court on Monday.
