CAPE TOWN/JOHANNESBURG - Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was found in one of Cape Town's most gang riddled areas this morning.

The Mitchells Plain community police forum says the man had been stabbed and left for dead.

The forum's Abie Isaacs says while details are still a bit sketchy they can confirm that the incident was not gang related.

He suggested that the man's death might be linked to domestic violence.

"The man's body was found in an area called Tafelsig. Police are still investigating the circumstances relating to his death."

Meanwhile, Eyewitness News has kept track of various shootings and suspected gang related incidents during the month of May.

A total of 21 murders were recorded in areas including Mitchells Plain, Steenberg and Lavender Hill.

A man is recovering in hospital after being shot in both hands this morning in an alleged mugging incident in Rieger Park on Gauteng's East Rand.

Officials say the man was walking alone in the street at 7am when he was approached by three men.

It's believed one of the men pulled out a gun and fired two shots before robbing him of R300 and his cellphone.

The police's Lungelo Dlamini said, "We are investigating a case of attempted murder and robbery and have already arrested one suspect while two are still at large."
