Ex-SAA boss looks to clear his name
Former acting CEO Vuyisile Kona applied for a court review of Malusi Gigaba's decision to axe him.
JOHANNESBURG - Former South African Airways (SAA) acting CEO Vuyisile Kona's lawyer on Friday said his client's greatest wish is to clear his name.
Kona applied for a court review of Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba's decision to axe him following allegations of wrongdoing.
Lawyer Eddie Classen said the first step is to obtain all the information relating to his client's dismissal.
This process is still underway and no date has been set for a court hearing.
Classen said his client believes Gigaba made a mistake.
"He was merely the puppet of other members of the board of South African Airways that were opposed [to him] for whatever reason."
SAA said an internal investigation into Kona's actions was finalised and a disciplinary process was underway.
Classen said this can't be the case because Kona no longer works for SAA.
