Khune named Bafana captain
Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund said he asked Khune to work on his temper.
JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has been given the captain's armband on a permanent basis.
Bafana coach Gordon Igesund said the Kaizer Chiefs skipper is the best man for the job.
"I'm very happy with his attitude, I spoke to him yesterday [Thursday]. I don't want him to just be a captain; I want him to be a great captain."
Igesund said he asked Khune to work on his temper in order to be a good example to his teammates.
"To be a great captain you have to calm down in certain situations. Sometimes he loses it and I've spoken to him about that. I told him that there are hundreds of captains, but I want him to be a great captain. There are only a few of those."
Bafana's bad luck with injured defenders continues.
This after Siyanda Xulu pulled out with an injury.
Xulu came off the field injured in the first half while playing for his Russian club Rostov.
He is the third defender to be pulled out of the squad, following the exit of Siboniso Gaxa and Tsepo Masilela.
Igesund said the latest injury is a big blow to his defence.
"It's unfortunate, but it happens in football. We've been dealt the cards and we'll make do with them."
