De Lille unfazed by booing
CT Mayor Patricia De Lille was forced off stage at the first service delivery hearing in Philippi.
CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille said on Thursday she would not be deterred from holding public hearings around service delivery.
De Lille announced a new campaign earlier this week called 'Know Your Community, Know Your Contractor', which is aimed at informing residents about how to channel complaints about service delivery.
The hearings will focus on public feedback to address service delivery issues.
Eight hearings will be held across the municipality with the first session taking place in Philippi on Tuesday evening.
But the mayor was forced off stage.
Fresh from a disastrous start on day one of the public hearings, De Lille said on Thursday she is not that easily unsettled.
She said that most of the crowd were under the impression that their councillor Thembinkosi Pupa was not invited to the hearing, which caused some chaos.
But De Lille believes this was all a ploy to sabotage the public debate.
She said she is now more determined than ever to get the ball rolling.
The next round of the planned hearings is set to take place on Tuesday next week.
