Men’s Comrades race open - Fordyce
Nine-time Comrades Marathon winner Bruce Fordyce said the Nurgalieva twins will dominate.
CAPE TOWN - Nine-time Comrades Marathon winner Bruce Fordyce on Friday said there was no clear favourite to win the men's 2013 race.
The legendary runner said two male runners could take the title this year.
He singled out Ludwick Mamabolo and Stephen Muzhingi.
Fordyce said the Nurgalieva twins, Elena and Olesya, will dominate in the ladies race, as usual.
"Sadly, from the point of the view of the ladies race a lot of the top contenders have been forced to withdraw with injury. Ellie Greenwood and Kami Semick, who could have given them a run for their money, are not going to be there. I think they are now the favourites."
Some 18,000 runners are expected to take part in the 87 kilometre run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg early on Sunday morning.
This will be the 88th edition of the illustrious race.
