JOHANNESBURG - The number of rhino killed since the beginning of 2013 has now climbed to 367, the Department of Environmental Affairs revealed on Thursday.

The majority of animals were killed in the Kruger National Park.

A total of 114 suspects have been arrested in connection with rhino poaching in South Africa.

Earlier this week, Kruger National Park game ranger Andrew Desmet was shot and wounded while trying to arrest poaching suspects.

Department spokesperson Albi Modise said Desmet is in a stable condition.

"Andre is recovering in hospital. Messages of support have been sent to the family and also to the rangers who are on the forefront of our fight against poaching."
