Chiefs to strengthen squad
The Amakhosi are looking to expand their squad ahead of the 2014 Champion's League.
JOHANNESBURG - Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says his side will be beefing up its squad ahead of next season to help prepare for the African Champions league.
After completing a league and cup double the Amakhosi will compete in the Champion's League next season.
The extra competition generally tests the player reserves of a club, but Baxter is certain that any acquisitions made in the off-season will offset the physical toll that playing in Africa places on footballers.
"What we're looking for is availability. We don't want to bring in players that are at the same level as the players that we have. I think that the players coming in have to strengthen the squad."
Baxter says he's looking to enhance every position in his side.
"You've got to monitor and identify them (players) properly. At the moment it's enough to say that we have to strengthen the squad and that we have to enhance the depth of the squad."
Kaizer Chiefs will especially be looking to hold on to their goalkeeper and captain Itumeleng Khune, who won four awards at the Absa Premiership end-of-year function, including Footballer of the Season and Players' Player of the Season.
