CAPE TOWN - Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said on Friday the Guptas and the Waterkloof matter is not a priority for her.

The minister addressed the Cape Town Press Club and officials from various departments at the Cape of Good Hope Castle on Friday morning.

Cutting straight to the point, the minister said she would not be discussing the Guptas and the controversial landing of their privately chartered jet at the Waterkloof Air Force Base during her keynote address.

She then proceeded to speak about the importance of spending on the upgrading skills and living conditions of soldiers and the need to purchase VVIP planes.

But Mapisa-Nqakula wasn't off the hook just yet and the Gupta saga was raised in Q&A session later.

She advised that people first thoroughly read government's findings on the saga and then question relevant officials on the matter before she would avail herself for interviews.

The minister concluded her responses by saying the Guptas are the least of her priorities.

She criticised journalists for not using the opportunity to question military experts at the event about the operations of the South African National Defence Force.
