Hawks boss free to work - for now
Mpumalanga Hawks Head Simon Mapayane is still on duty after he was arrested this week.
JOHANNESBURG - Police say a decision is yet to be made about whether the Mpumalanga Hawks head will be suspended after he was arrested for fraud.
Major-General Simon Mapayane was taken into custody on Wednesday and later released on R1,000 bail for allegedly filing fraudulent travel claims.
The police's Phuti Setati says Mapanye will appear in court again on 26 June, while an internal investigation is underway.
"The member is still on duty at the moment and internal process will unfold and a decision will be taken."
Setati would not elaborate on the charges but said the investigation which led to the arrest has been running for some time.
