JOHANNESBURG - A 38-year-old man was expected to appear in court on Monday for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin worth over R6 million from Zimbabwe into South Africa.

The man was arrested on Sunday at the Beitbridge Border Post near Limpopo.

Police spokesperson Ronel Otto said the drugs were found in a secret compartment in his bag.

"When a compartment was opened police found a bag with a white substance. It was tested and found to be heroin."

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old suspect arrested at the weekend for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine with an estimated street value of R1.8 million, appeared in court on Monday.
