Two gang members gunned down
The ongoing gang violence in the Western Cape has claimed more lives.
CAPE TOWN - Two alleged gang members have been shot dead in separate incidents in Steenberg.
Both shootings took place over a 24-hour period.
The men are believed to belong to the Mongrels Gang.
Steenberg Community Policing Forum chairperson Kevin Southgate said, "We have had two reported shooting incidents. One happened in Lavender Hill on Thursday night and the second one took place on Friday morning in Steenberg."
He said residents lived in fear and desperately needed the gang violence to come to an end.
"We are concerned by the fact that its gang-on-gang violence and it would appear as if it is drug related."
Several people have lost their lives due to the ongoing gang violence in the Western Cape.
In 2012, Premier Helen Zille wrote to the Presidency asking for the army be deployed to gang infested communities.
But her request was denied.
The Presidency said the army was not equipped to deal with civilians.
