CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police have appealed for information which may lead to the arrests in connection with the rape of a Swellendam woman.

Twenty-year-old Annemarie Beukes was found naked and lying in a pool of water after she had been attacked on the weekend.

She was rushed to hospital where she died the next day.

The police's Frederick van Wyk said they were unable to get any information or a statement from her as she was apparently under the influence of alcohol when she was found.

Van Wyk added that no arrests have been made just yet and he appealed to the public to contact police with any leads.

The investigation on the case continues.

This incident comes just three months after teenager Anene Booysen was gang-raped, mutilated and left for dead in Bredasdorp.

The 17-year-old named her attackers before she died in hospital. Two men were arrested for the crime.

According to statistics, a person is raped every four minutes in South Africa.
