Investigators follow leads on stadium heist
Investigators are hoping to get a breakthrough on who is behind the FNB Stadium heist.
JOHANNESBURG - Security firms and private investigators are following all leads in an attempt to crack the mystery of a multi-million rand heist at FNB Stadium in Soweto.
On Monday, Eyewitness News revealed how a gang of thieves made away with the money from this weekend's Justin Bieber and Bon Jovi concerts.
The suspects chiseled away at a wall and into a strong room.
Using ladders and ropes, the robbers made their way to the loot, walking away with the cash takings from the two events.
Eyewitness News understands that several potential leads were pursued by private investigators and a breakthrough was expected soon.
According to a source close to the investigation, officials are looking into one particularly "hot" lead that could result in arrests.
The details of those developments could not be made public at this stage due to the sensitivity of the case.
Authorities also analysed CCTV footage from 10 cameras.
Staff members also went through polygraph tests.
Fingerprints and forensic evidence was also scrutinised.
Stadium Management said this was a sophisticated crime and that the suspects had intimate knowledge of the stadium, its layout and security.
