JOHANNESBURG - Former South African cricketer Victor Mpitsang on Sunday said Russell Domingo was the right person to lead South African cricket.

Domingo was appointed as head coach of the Proteas on Saturday.

This was after coach Gary Kirsten made his shocking announcement to resign on Friday.

Kirsten, who cited personal reasons for his resignation, will serve as head coach until August.

Mpitsang, who represented South Africa during the late 1990s, said he wished Domingo well.

"The credentials of what Domingo has achieved as a coach make him the right guy to do the job.

"The only way we can know how well he can do his job is by giving him an opportunity."
