Hunt on for new Proteas coach
The South African cricket team will now be headed by another coach after Gary Kirsten's resignation.
JOHANNESBURG - The hunt is on for the next head coach of the South African cricket team, the Proteas.
This follows coach Gary Kirsten's announcement on Friday that he will be stepping down from the post in August.
Assistant coach Russell Domingo is the favourite to take the position which will be announced later on Saturday.
Domingo laughed off the rumours, saying you could never be certain of anything in cricket.
"I was busy preparing for another season with Gary and then he says he is leaving. Things change very quickly in cricket."
Cricket South Africa (CSA) accepted Kirsten's decision not to renew his contract.
Kirsten cited personal reasons for leaving, saying that he wanted to spend more time with his family.
He was the first local player to partake in 100 Test matches.
He made his Test debut for South Africa in 1993 against Australia.
