Gangsters must be prosecuted
10 people have been killed in gang related incidents over the last week.
CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said on Saturday a main reason behind the recent increase in gang violence is the unsuccessful prosecution of many criminals.
About 10 people have been killed in gang related incidents over the last week alone.
Two teenagers were gunned down in Delft on Sunday, while a suspected gangster was shot and killed outside the Goodwood Magistrates Court on Friday.
The city has called for calm.
"It's imperative that SAPS (South African Police Service) investigate and successfully prosecute the persons involved," said the city's JP Smith.
"I'm afraid, that's the problem at the moment broadly with the gang violence issue in Cape Town - the lack of successful convictions for gang shootings."
