Domingo to take Proteas to next level
Russell Domingo was appointed the new head coach of the Proteas on Saturday morning.
JOHANNESBURG - Russell Domingo was on Saturday confident he could take Cricket South Africa (CSA) to the next level.
He was appointed as the new head coach of the Proteas on Saturday morning and will take over from Gary Kirsten after the upcoming Champions Trophy in the United Kingdom.
Cricket South Africa president Chris Nenzani complimented Domingo and applauded him for his hard work over the past two years.
"A massive day in my life and my career, the structures that have been put in place to have the confidence in appointing me to this crucial position," Domingo said.
"I've had a wonderful two years with the national side thus far and hopefully I can continue to take the side to another level."
Domingo said he's received the blessing of all the senior Protea players and receiving the approval of the senior players was crucial to him.
"As important as the board support, is the senior players' support.
"I wouldn't have taken instructions without having spoken to some of the senior players, so I have made a few phone calls around the world to find out if players are comfortable with having me as their coach.
He begins his duties in August, after Kirsten steps down.
