JOHANNESBURG - The death toll from the Limpopo accident involving a truck and mini bus taxi has risen to 13.

At least 12 people died on the scene when the truck and mini bus taxi collided on the N1 near the Baobab Toll Plaza on Thursday.

One of the injured has died in hospital.

Six others were seriously injured.

Musina police spokesperson Ronel Otto says, "Out the 13 deceased seven are males and five are females. No children were involved and we are also following up on information that all the people who died are from Zimbabwe. They were on their way from Pretoria to Zimbabwe when the accident happened."

The accident happened during International Road Safety Week.

South Africa has one of the highest road death tolls in the world.

At least 1,207 people were killed on the country's roads during the festive season.
