JOHANNESBURG - Justice Minister Jeff Radebe and retired Judge Ian Farlam were due to decide soon whether the venue for the Marikana commission of inquiry should be moved.

The inquiry was extended to the end of June in order to hear testimony from a range of key witnesses involved in the shooting last year which left 34 miners dead.

Advocate Dali Mpofu, who is representing the miners, submitted an application to move the venue from Rustenburg to Pretoria.

Mpofu said the legal teams were running out of funds due to traveling expenses.

The commission's spokesperson Tshepo Mahlangu said a decision had not yet been finalised.

"The minister and the commissioner are looking at all the factors on the matter."
