Traffic cop shoots drunk driver
A motorist was shot dead by a traffic cop after the motorist allegedly stabbed the officer.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police are investigating the exact circumstances around the death of a Cape Town motorist allegedly at the hands of a traffic officer.
Kyle Weideman was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol on the N1 near Brackenfell on Saturday.
It is alleged an officer shot the 22-year-old when he attacked him with a knife.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the official has since been discharged from hospital.
"I visited my officer in hospital and he was badly wounded because of what happened on the scene."
He added that after a police investigation his department we will decide which direction to take.
