WC education launches feeding scheme
Education MEC Donald Grant will launch a school feeding scheme at a Cape Town school.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant says it is difficult to teach hungry learners.
The MEC is launching a new feeding scheme at the Academia Primary School in Eerste River today.
Thousands of youngsters across the province go without breakfast each day.
Grant says he hopes this new feeding programme will make a difference in the lives of many pupils.
"It's critical that our learners are not hungry. It's no use only doing it later in the day during the break or at lunch time. They are often hungry when they come to school."
He says they also hope the breakfast meal will encourage learners to arrive early for school.
"This will not only provide more nutrition for our learners but it will also have the added benefit of encouraging our learners to arrive at school early."
